Eco-friendly cars, volcanos and lava lamps were all part of the fun at our science fair.

Pupils in years 7 to 9 showed off their scientific creations, ranging from home-made lava lamps to hand-held balls of fire, at the fair which was held to mark the end of a week of science related activities for British Science Week.

Parents of the students were invited in to see the 12 displays, which were judged by Mr Grenfell, Mr Riddell, Mr Carassale and Mr Daniel Halenko, managing director BELLit security.

Winners were Year 7 pupil Eromi Navaratnam who was named scientist of the week and Emily Brind, Year 7 who won the best poster award.

The science fair winners were Year 9 pupils Isaac Eastwood, John Greenwood, Jack Treacy for their experiment investigating various applications for non-Newtonian fluids. Runners up were Year 7 pupils Eleanor Jackson, Millie Cunniff, Evie Ashurst who observing how much gas is produced with different concentrations of acid and alkalis.

During British Science Week pupils explored the theme ‘Exploration and Discovery’, looking at volcanos, eco-friendly cars, solar systems, how musical notes are produced, lava lamps and investigating semi-solids.

The students also looked at the work of Professor Stephen Hawking, who passed away during the week, discussing his work and how it the influence it has had on the world as we know it.
