The Stone Effect is the story of a 16-year-old girl who dreams of becoming a writer and, as Victoria herself explains in the foreword, is: “a story for anyone who has ever been a dreamer.”

In order to get the novel published on Amazon, Victoria had to format all the pages herself so they fit within the constraints of the online store, and choose a cover image.

Victoria said: “It took me five whole days to format the pages but it was totally worth it to see my story come to life as a real book.

“I’ve been writing full books for the past five years and I’m planning a sequel to this story already. I’ve always wanted to be an author and self-publishing my first novel is one step closer to that becoming a reality.”

Victoria visited the BBC Radio Lancashire studios to talk about the book on World Book Day before signing copies back at ag6 for fellow students and staff.

Dawn Luszczak, head of ag6, said: “Everyone connected to Alder Grange is incredibly proud of Victoria’s achievement. This has been her dream since she was little and to help her on her way to becoming an author is something we’re privileged to be a part of.”

Ag6 learning mentor, Pauline McDonald, was instrumental in Victoria joining the sixth form from Fearns Community Sports College in September 2018.

Victoria said: “Mrs McDonald has been a brilliant support to me ever since we met at a careers fair when I was in year 9 – I was always going to come to ag6.”

Pauline added: “We hope that having her own story published will encourage Victoria to keep on going. Hosting a book signing was incredibly exciting for our students, both here and in the main school – Victoria is a shining example of what you can achieve if you are passionate and hardworking.”
