Every October is International Walk to School Month – an opportunity for children to join hundreds of thousands of pupils across the globe celebrating the walk to school.
We are encouraging all members of our school community to walk to school during the week commencing 18th – 22nd October. This has many benefits including helping our school community get daily exercise, opportunities to enjoy the outdoors and to possibly practice a little mindfulness on the way (weather permitting of course).
If you are unable to walk but would be willing to car share during that week that will also be most welcome and also cut the number of cars on our roads. This has other beneficial effects such as reducing pollution and combating climate change.
We are hoping to see at least a 30% REDUCTION IN CAR JOURNEYS taken to the school gate and a 23% INCREASE IN WALKING RATES.
We will survey our pupils during this week to see what impact this has had.
