Students Collaborate with Local Churches to Create New Logo

Two Rossendale churches enlisted the help of Alder Grange School pupils to create a new logo. Pupils from Year 11 met up with the Vicar of St Mary’s & St Paul’s churches, the Reverend Chris Casey, to develop a logo for the two parish churches which have recently joined forces.

The students carried out research into the churches newly formed vision statements and into the needs of the two churches. They then produced several designs which were shown to the church congregations who voted for the winner.

The winning design was by 16-year-old Daniella Whittaker who was presented with the prize at a presentation ceremony at St Paul’s Constable Lee. Her design will feature on the website of both churches and will adorn all signage and documentation from both churches. Two runner-up prizes were also presented to pupils Tyler Duthie and Jade West.

The Reverend Chris Casey welcomed Mr David Hampson and thanked the school on behalf of himself and the congregations, for the hard work put in by all the students and staff at the school. Reverend Chris Casey said:

“We have been delighted to work with Alder Grange School on this project. For many of the pupils thinking about church was a new activity but they have engaged in the project sincerely and produced some wonderful results that bear all the hallmarks of thoughtful reflection. They have been a real help and we are delighted with Daniella’s design. We look forward to future projects as we work together in the community.”

There was also a presentation to Mrs Christina Lemmermann and Miss Vicky Irving for their support throughout the project. Daniella said:

“Winning the competition was an amazing shock. The part of the competition that interested me the most was the opportunity to have my work publically displayed. Learning about the church’s heritage and its foundations, as part of the research side, interested me and inspired the final piece.”

Christina Lemmermann, Art and Design teacher at Alder Grange said:

“It was wonderful to work in collaboration with our local community on a real-life project. Rev. Casey has been an inspiration to work with and I am hoping that we can collaborate on more projects in future. All the art pupils took part in the project with enthusiasm and creativity, there were 76 designs submitted and every one of them was a winner in my eyes. I am very proud of my year 11 art pupils and with what they have achieved with this project.”
