New GCSE Grading Structure

A non-uniform day was recently held to support the AGS Cheerleading Squad to help cover the costs of the entry fees and costumes for the UKCA National Schools’ Championships 2018. The fundraising event helped to raise an astonishing £567. For the past seven years the cheerleading squad have taken home wins across the board at the national champions, which this year will take place in at Manchester Velodrome in June.

Lisa Archer assistant curriculum leader in physical education said: “When I first started at Alder Grange there was a group of girls who used to cheer at Turf Moor at the Burnley F.C matches and they asked if they could start a cheerleading team.

“We have three teams all of different abilities who compete at different levels. The elite team, the Wild Cats, have the most difficult routines with summersaults, backflips, stunts and lifts to over head height.

“Our teams have gone from strength to strength, winning the Rossendale Schools championships for the 14 consecutive years as well as being crowned national champions for seven years.

“We are delighted that pupils across the school have got behind us and helped £661 through the non-uniform day and other fundraisers, towards the cost of the entry fee and the costumes. The girls are extremely dedicated and we are all vying for them to take home more trophies.”

Faye Mitchell from FLM Cheerleading who coaches the Wild Cats on the run up to the competition said: “I’ve been working with the Wild Cats team for around five years now and each year they keep raising the bar. The girls are extremely dedicated and and I’m excited to see how this year’s team will progress in the competition.”

Prior to the UKCA National Schools’ Championships the cheerleaders will also compete in the North West Schools Fest competition.
