How should Year 7 students start their revision?

As a parent, you’re probably wondering how to encourage them to take responsibility for revision and get into good habits in year 7 and for the years ahead. Many students assume that revision simply means reading through their exercise book or text book once or twice and that will be sufficient to remember and understand all the details. However, reading is a very passive activity and it’s important that your child uses effective revision techniques in order for the information to stick such as flash cards, revision posters and mind-maps, post-it and sticky notes, PowerPoint presentation… They may want to use other revision strategies like teaching someone, testing themselves? Have a look at some beautiful examples of revision strategies in Year 7:

Message from Mr Haydar (Head of Year)

As we come to the end of Term 2, we’d like to commend our Year 7 students for their continued engagement and positive mindset as they continue their Alder Grange journey. This half term we have focused on making improvements from term 1 and setting targets from our first progress check. We have seen some amazing examples of students showing constant improvement. Our clubs continue to be well attended. A big well done to all students who have attended a sports club or represented the school this half term, it’s great to see them all having fun and making memories. Non-sports clubs have also seen great attendance, learning new skills and meeting new people.

I regularly visit lessons and speak to students and teachers and I get the feeling that this year group are really setting themselves up for a strong 7 years. They set the tone with their efforts, enthusiasm and personal interactions and I feel as though the vast majority are buying into this and understand they have the ability to take control of each day as mature, polite and conscientious young men and women. It’s great to see them working so hard each day and hear the positives from teachers.

Message from Mrs Griffiths (Headteacher)

Well done Year 7 you are going from strength to strength and are shaping up to be super Alder Grangers! I am impressed by your good manners and confidence – it is always lovely talking to you all. I have seen lots of examples of excellent work from your teachers. Keep up the good work, I cannot wait to see what you achieve next
