Online Safety
The internet is a wonderful tool that has many benefits. However, it can also pose a risk if it is not used correctly. Online safety is being aware of possible threats that you could encounter whilst engaging in activity through the internet. These could be security threats, protecting and managing your personal data, online reputation management and avoiding harmful or illegal content.
Filtering & Monitoring
At Alder Grange we place a strong emphasis on educating and protecting our pupils so they know how to use the internet safely.
We have a web filtering and monitoring system through the school’s firewall, ensuring students cannot access inappropriate content on the school’s network and alerting the school if blocked content has attempted to be viewed. We also have software rolled out throughout the school network called Impero. This is used to monitor the activity of devices on the network and logs everything a user does on the device. This software is used in school to promote a safe school and online learning environment.
Students’ school e-mails are also monitored for any inappropriate messaging. If there is anything concerning, then the IT department and the safeguarding team will be notified. If a pupil is exposed to any online risks or a safeguarding concern is highlighted using our IT systems, these are identified and acted upon swiftly by our Safeguarding team.
