The ethos at Alder Grange is unique. It can best be summarised by the statement:

We explicitly teach our students what it means to be an Alder Granger from the moment they arrive at school in Year 7, and refer to this frequently. The ethos is primarily built upon relationships, which are  warm and caring, supporting a genuine family feel.

These relationships are modelled and developed in lessons, we encourage all pupils to care for one another and the school, to work as a team and to take on leadership roles.

Our vision is for our pupils to:

  • Feel a strong sense of belonging – to have a “love of school” and feel part of the Alder Grange family;
  • Achieve their potential, thrive in school and make good academic progress;
  • Aspire to achieve the best they can, have a positive view of ‘what they are good at’ and have clear goals for their next steps after Alder Grange.

Our values are built upon the 3Rs (Ready, Respectful & Responsible) through which we aim to create young people who are:

  • Ready to learn, punctual for school and lessons and in the correct uniform.
  • Respectful to everyone, kind, considerate, listen well, are thoughtful and have good manners so that everyone feels safe, happy and valued as an individual in school.
  • Responsible for organising themselves and their work, ask for help when they need it, stay positive and resilient when things are tough, and follow our school rules.
