According to legislation and Government guidance, safeguarding refers to:

  • Protecting children from maltreatment
  • Preventing the impairment of children’s health or development
  • Ensuring that children grow up in circumstances that provide safe and effective care
  • Taking action to ensure all children and young people achieve the best possible outcomes

Safeguarding is a broad concept that goes beyond child protection. It also includes areas such as health care plans, health and safety, site security, educational visits, anti-bullying initiatives, and many other measures designed to keep children safe and supported.
