The Computing & Business department is linked to the whole school theme of STEM & Digital Technology.
Our intent is to develop the digital literacy, problem solving and enterprise skills of all Alder Grange pupils.
Starting in KS3, pupils are taught how to use IT safely and effectively, so that these skills can be utilised in all subjects at Alder Grange. This includes creating documents; communicating online; using the Internet.
Developing digital literacy skills is a key aspect of helping to develop Alder Grange pupils in to good citizens.
Computer Science extends digital literacy by focusing on why and how software works, not just how to use software. The knowledge gained in Computer Science helps to develop perseverance and independence so that Alder Grange pupils can solve problems that they have not encountered before.
Our 10-week project based course in KS3, provides an opportunity for Alder Grange pupils to develop their teamwork and communication skills. These skills are developed alongside a understanding of how business works, which is preparing pupils for the world of work.
The foundation offered at KS3 helps Alder Grange pupils to make informed choices about their next options as they progress to KS4 and KS5.
Developing whole school digital skills is carried out through offering iDEA (Inspiring Digital Enterprise Award) to all year groups, outside of lessons. This is so that Alder Grange pupils who do not choose a Computing option, can still develop their digital literacy, problem solving and enterprise skills.
